Jakob is a prize for quality and excellence in tourism in the Alps-Adriatic region, which will be awarded at
the Alpe–Adria: Tourism and Leisure Show at the end of January 2012. The international expert jury presided over by Prof. Janez Bogataj, PhD, each year chooses a winner based on the set criteria – the prize receive those, who significantly contribute to the mosaic of innovative tourist endeavours of the Alps-Adriatic region. The main theme of the
Jakob 2012 competition is:
Innovative tourist products in the field of alternative forms of leisure and relaxation.
The applications submitted in the course of Jakob 2012 Competition will be assessed by the international expert jury from the area covered by the Alps-Adriatic Working Community. The jury will assess projects of various applicants who enrich tourist offer in the places and areas of the Alps-Adriatic region with innovative tourist products in different fields of alternative forms of leisure and relaxation. The assessment will mainly focus on regulations and guidelines concerning the sustainable and environmentally friendly development. The Jakob 2012 Competition is intended for various providers of tourist programmes and themes in the concerned field, i.e. in the field of alternative forms of leisure and relaxation. The expert jury will assess only implemented products and projects that are already being carried out.
Jakob is the allegory for the »first« tourist or tourist traveller: such a tourist, Europe desires in its efforts for environmentally friendly and sustainable development of this important industry and social movement, which started in the second half of the 18th century but has a much longer tradition. It is precisely this dimension of the tourist cultural heritage, characteristically symbolized by Jakob, we would like to mark with the most visible, innovative, creative and other movements in the tourism of the Alps-Adriatic region.
